Symphony Orchestra

The Symphony Orchestra performs 3-6 concerts a year, including a side-by-side concert opportunity with the Arapahoe Philharmonic. Repertoire will be selected from a range of great classical composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Mussorgsky, as well as contemporary pieces from Film and other popular media. Students will also get the chance to perform a work by the resident composer with the Arapahoe Philharmonic!  Concerts will be at varying venues in and around the Highlands Ranch area.

The Civic Youth Orchestra will also be featured in select numbers at one or more performances of a professionally produced opera between Avanti and the Arapahoe Philharmonic.  This project will feature the Arapahoe Phil's Sinfonietta and will be produced annually in the spring.

Auditions are required for enrollment in the Symphony Orchestra.  Ages range from 8-18. Rehearsals are held weekly at Avanti Music Academy, and take place Sunday afternoons from 5:00pm-7:30pm.

Auditions will be held at Avanti Music Academy on Saturday, September 2nd from 10am to 4pm. We will additionally have open enrollment beyond this date, also with audition. If you'd like to audition, click below, and choose a time to come in.

Audition Requirements

We ask that you prepare the following for your audition:

  • A solo piece, or pieces, no longer than 3 minutes that best demonstrates your technique and musicality.
  • An Orchestral excerpt of your choosing.

A few notes on excerpts...

  1. If divisi are present, please play the top/highest part, unless it is indicated otherwise.
  2. Play in the right tempo, and with expression.  Nerves are strong, and tend to push us to play too fast.  Breathe, and be musical!
  3. Be confident!!
